FUSE CDT Annual Scientific Meeting 2026
Tuesday, 23rd June 2026
The Gleddoch Spa Resort
Our Annual Scientific Meeting brings together the FUSE community—including students, academics, and partners—to share PhD/EngD research projects, showcase academic expertise, and present the latest research. External partners will also share their experiences in Ultrasound technology development. The event offers a valuable opportunity to network, reconnect with old friends and colleagues, and make new connections.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Dr. Frederic Cegla / Imperial College London
Dr Frederic Cegla aims to solve real world industrial problems through innovative application of scientific and technological principles that arise from within the research community. He has performed fundamental scientific studies but also has experience in delivering consultancy projects to industrial partners and in commercialising research findings.
Dr Cegla leads many of the activities of the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) research group that are focused on experimental measurement and monitoring of defects and structural properties of engineering components. He is the holder of a prestigious EPSRC funded fellowship on non-destructive monitoring of engineering infrastructure and led Imperial’s input into the £36million ORCA hub for robotics and AI in harsh environments.
He has experience of being a researcher at Imperial College London and the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Frederic is a key contributor to the UK RCNDE that consists of many industrial members and several UK universities. He is a keen advocate for impact generation through technology transfer and has co-founded several other spin out companies, namely Sonobotics Ltd, Embed Biotech Ltd and CodeAcq Ltd.
One of the key successes of Dr Cegla’s research so far was the formation of the spin off company Permasense Ltd which has become the worldwide number one provider of ultrasonic corrosion monitoring systems to the oil and gas industry. For this and his other contributions Dr Cegla has been awarded several prizes and the work featured as one of the REF2021 case studies for Imperial College London.
Dr Cegla is an active member of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and was group chair of the Physical Acoustics Group (PAG) from 2018-2022. He is currently acting as the BINDT SHM working group chair and is a member of the scientific committee of the EWSHM conference series.
Frederic sits on the FUSE Independent Oversight Board (IFOB), helping to guide the future of the CDT.
